What We Do

Since the beginning, we have led the effort to showcase and preserve the history of marching pageantry arts. We want to tell the world about the story worth knowing and the story worth telling.

Our Mission

The mission of the Marching Pageantry Arts Museum is to preserve and protect the present and future legacy of the drum and bugle corps activity for all ages and generations.

Our Goal

Our goal is to be a strong, vibrant resource for both the marching activity and the general public.

Our Plan

Welcome to the Marching Pageantry Arts Museum (MPAM), a world-class museum that will transport you through time to explore the rich history and development of the horn and drum. Immerse yourself in the journey from the humble origins of the horn, starting with the rams horn, to the evolution of the modern horn that we know today. Discover the fascinating history of drums, from the earliest animal skin drums to the intricate Swiss rudiments that laid the foundation for modern percussion instruments.

At MPAM, we pride ourselves in having examples of every type of horn and drum available, showcasing the incredible variety and innovation of these instruments.

In addition to the instruments themselves, MPAM delves into the participation of African Americans in drum corps, shedding light on their significant contributions to the art form. We also explore the integral role of women in drum corps, highlighting their achievements and showcasing their phenomenal talent.

But MPAM is not just about the instruments and performers; we also celebrate the true pageantry of color guard and drill design. Witness the evolution of these captivating art forms from military drill to the dazzling and elaborate Broadway-style shows we see today.

To enhance your experience, MPAM plans to incorporate the latest technology such as VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality). Immerse yourself in the world of marching pageantry as you witness performances come alive through these cutting-edge technologies.

MPAM is committed to accessibility and inclusivity. We strive to create a museum that is welcoming and accessible to all, including those with hearing and sight impairments as well as limited physical abilities. Everyone should have the opportunity to explore and enjoy the beauty of the marching pageantry arts.

As a museum that embodies the spirit of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math), MPAM goes beyond just the performance aspect. We explore the science behind the sound, the engineering marvels that bring the instruments to life, and the mathematical precision of drill formations. This interdisciplinary approach allows visitors to gain a holistic understanding of the art form, enriching their experience and education.

Get ready to be captivated by the magic and grandeur of marching pageantry at the Marching Pageantry Arts Museum. Step into a world filled with history, innovation, and boundless creativity as we celebrate the art of music and movement like never before.

What Are People Saying?

“An incredible asset to the community.”

Laura Wentz, Councilwoman Upper Darby Township

“Many people have private archives and collections. But to our knowledge, Bill has the most extensive collection in North America”

— Nathan Huxtable

“The collection speaks to the power it has in people’s lives. The uniforms are the relics of the activity, they tell the story. So many of them are great stories that need to be remembered.”
